  • description: Another job removing a hedge, or more precisely, the client asked me to remove about 5 meters of laurel hedge along with the roots, as he wants to put a garden shed in that corner of the yard. After the client sent me several photos on my phone so that I could understand the scope of the work, I decided to use a tripod with a lift, as it was necessary to dig up all the roots because he wanted to build a stone platform for the garden shed in the near future. I arrived at the appointed time and got to work. At first glance, the job didn't seem difficult to me, only 5 meters of fence, and I decided that I could do it in a couple of hours, but I was a little mistaken. As usual, I first cut all the branches from the front of the fence, then from the top. At that moment, I felt my boot slip off my foot. Coming out of the bushes, I saw that the cord had simply broken, so I just tied it. Then I dragged all the cut branches away from the work area so I could walk freely, and again, using a chainsaw, I cut the branches from the back of the hedge and shortened the laurel trunks a little, leaving about 30 cm from the ground so they wouldn't get caught on the tripod when pulling them out of the ground. Then I brought the tripod and set it up over the first cut laurel bush. At first, I wanted to use a 1-ton lift, but I thought it wouldn't be enough, so I brought another lift with a lifting capacity of 3 tons. After setting it up on the tripod, I started pulling out the root. The root came out of the ground in just 5 minutes. Then I knocked the dirt off the root with a shovel and dragged it away. I did the same with the second root. The other two were much larger and required more effort to pull out, although the winch handled the task without any particular problems. However, my arms were very tense, and at one point the tripod simply sank into the ground, after which I decided to take a short break. There I was met by the owners' dog. I returned to work and after a while finally pulled out this root and placed the tripod over the last root, but when I pulled, the tripod sank into the ground again, possibly because there was a hole there, so I had to loosen the chain and move the tripod, and finally, after a while, I pulled out this root as well. Then I brought the trailer and started to transfer all the cuttings into it. I used a wheelbarrow for small branches and cuttings, but I had to work hard to load the roots and transport them to the trailer. I managed to load one root onto the trailer, but I had to saw the largest root in half because it was too heavy to fit in the wheelbarrow. In addition, the trailer was full, so I stacked everything nearby to come back the next day with an empty trailer. Then I gathered all the leaves and clippings and leveled the ground with a rake. That was the end of the job, which took me about 5 hours and filled the trailer. A little later, I started on my next job. The owner of the restaurant where I had already filmed my videos several times asked me again to help remove a stump in the middle of the yard. The stump had previously been used for an outdoor table, but it had aged and took up a lot of space in the yard. For this job, I brought a more powerful chainsaw and a stump grinder. First, I broke the cement around the stump with a sledgehammer and collected the stones in a green bag. Then I tried to cut the stump with a chainsaw, but it turned out to be wider than the length of the chainsaw. I couldn't knock it down with a sledgehammer, so I cut off a little on one side and was able to cut off the middle. Then I brought the grinder and started grinding the stump, completely removing it to a depth of 30 cm. I also collected all the wood chips in a bag. After that, I left to bring the paving stones. I unloaded them from the car next to the laying site and started removing the cut stones, leaving only the whole ones so that I could fill the hole. I leveled the ground a little and compacted it with a gasoline rammer and a hand rammer. Then I poured two wheelbarrows of gravel, stretched the ropes, laid out the pipes to determine the height, leveled the ground for laying, and finally started laying the stones. In some places, it was not easy to lay the stones because the distance was not very large, so I used a stone cutter. When the last stone was laid, I collected the broken stones in a wheelbarrow and took them away, and I stacked the good stones in a pile and took them to the backyard. There was a brush nearby, and I decided to use it to clean up the debris, but it broke immediately, so I went and got my own brush. After that, I tamped the stones again with a tamper, filled the gaps with sand, and played a little curling with the tamper again. Then he said goodbye to me and went about his business, but I caught up with him near my car. Like me, he wanted to go home. The job was finished 40 minutes before dark, and it took me about 7 hours.
